The Service Year

The NYSC Service year programme consists of four phase, which are as follows:

The Orientation Camp

The Orientation Course is a 3 weeks training programme designed to induct corps members for the one year National Service and equip them mentally and physically with paramilitary skills to enable them face the challenges ahead of the service year.

The Primary Assignment

The Primary assignment commences as soon as corps members are through with the Orientation Camp programme. This is a period spanning about eleven months during which corps members are posted to work in government establishments and private organisations to render service to the nation.


Community Development Service

This is the aspect of the national service where corps members initiate and execute projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of their host communities.


Passing Out Ceremony

The Passing-Out ceremony is the final phase of the national service during which corps members are reassembled to appraise the service year with a view to making informed suggestions towards improving the operations of the scheme.
