Lekki-based Elevation Church, donates a block of ten classrooms to Zumratul Islamiyyah Primary School II, Epe. It is the vision of the church to ‘make greatness common’ by positively impacting and developing its environment in tangible and measurable ways.
Having witnessed the poor learning environment at Zumratul Islamiyyah Primary School II, Epe, the church decided to improve the lot of the school by constructing ten classrooms with toilets, sinking a borehole and also providing 300 sets of student furniture for the constructed classrooms.
The Elevation Church completed the project and proceeded to commission and hand over the new structures to the Lagos State Government in trust for the children on Thursday the 10th of April 2014. Dignitaries present at the commissioning ceremony were the Chief Missioner, Zumratul Islamiyyah Epe community and the representatives of the Lagos State Honorable Commissioner for Education, the Chairman of Epe Local Government Council and the Elepe of Epe.
The Lead Pastor of the Elevation Church, Godman Akinlabi in his address said that good deeds must transcend religious bias. Drawing from the popular Bible teaching on ‘The Good Samaritan’, he reiterated the fact that a true neighbour was one who would help out a brother in need, regardless of race, religion or class. The project was hailed as an admirable act by all the guests and community members present, and was noted to be an excellent way to bridge the gap between the two major religions in Nigeria.
The Elevation Church which was inaugurated in October 2010, held its first community impact event that same year where it hosted a soup kitchen to feed and clothe the homeless and the underprivileged in Lagos Island and to share the love of Christ amongst them.
This small act of kindness continued to grow and subsequently evolved into two outreach churches, in Oniru and Onikan, where about 450 underprivileged members of the community are fed, clothed, given medical attention and taught the word of God each week. This mission to the less privileged tagged ‘Elevate 200’ also seeks to empower at least 200 of its beneficiaries by teaching them life skills and equipping them with materials to start small businesses to become self-reliant and eventually be able to give back to their communities, creating a cycle of empowerment.
This Corporate Socially Responsible (CSR) conscious Church is keeping to its vision of making greatness common.
